Why do people need God

by Mr. Tiny Brain

Man is the supreme being in the universe. Lets face it, this is the twenty first century. We're no longer cowering when we see an eclipse. We have science. We can prove things now. There aren't any space aliens either. Out of the billions of planets in the universe, man is the most intelligent being. At least we think we are. After more than 2000 years of civilization we've discovered almost everything there is to know.

Wouldn't it be a shame if the statements above were true. Sadly many people believe they are true. Man may be the ultimate being but we still need to wear clothes because we can't control our animal instincts. The sound of a racial slur can still start a riot or a war. We're more concerned about making money than we are about the consequences of our actions. After all we've accomplished we're still more animal than civilized; and yet we want to claim that there's no higher power for us to answer to for our sins.

We need God. We need someone we can believe in to hold us to a higher standard of ethics than we would hold ourselves. We need to believe there is more to existence than the few short years we have on earth. We need to have hope in more than just ourselves. Even if you don't believe in God, you need more than you have now. We need forgiveness that we don't seem to be able to give ourselves. The laws that we follow are not necessarily designed to make our society better. The law is not enough to make all men equal; for us to treat each other as human beings should.

We need God to help us realize that wars are economic. One group of people wants something badly enough to kill for it. In America we fought the Indians because they had things the settlers wanted. Usually it was land, sometimes gold, but whatever it was it was cheaper for us to steal it than to pay for it. The civil war was fought because slave labor was economically justifiable to the slave owners. The other side in the civil war was fighting primarily to keep the country whole. The north didn't want the economic consequences of the South's secession. The fact that the war would end slavery was incidental. The key to the current war in the middle east is oil. Everyone knows that if there were no oil at stake, nobody would have cared about Saddam Hussein. The attack on the twin towers was also economic. Unbeknownst to some people; American companies have not always acted ethically when doing business in other countries. Many foreigners believe that all Americans are aware of
