There is nothing worse than the smell of cat urine. It is a smell that you will never forget and no matter what you try. Well, that was what I had thought, anyway.
But I do think what is important to note on, is why is the cat urinating outside of the litter box to begin with? There could be few reasons worth taking note on and doing some investigating on to determine the underlying cause.
Some reasons may include:
• Male cat spraying marking his territory
• Litter box is too dirty or not big enough if more than one cat in the home
• Being bullied by other pets so that it cannot go into the litter box
Those are just a few. Now, I am not a professional by any means. I just have a love and passion for cats and have gained alot of knowledge and experience over the years. I would recommend talking to your Veterinarian if the problem persists, maybe there could be another underlying cause.
I had taken in a stray male cat even though I already had three cats but grew attached to him. I brought him in a few days before I was taking him to the vet to get fixed and declawed and his shots so he could get used to the house and the other cats. Well, he started spraying. I was cleaning to no end to get rid of the smell. I had tried the vinegar and water solution poured onto the area and let it soak it and blot it up. That helped a little bit, but did not take the odor fully away.
I was at Wal-mart one day looking for something to use when I saw this white bottle with a pink and yellow label that said OUT! It was for pet stains and odors and had a picture of a dog and cat on the front. I said "what the heck" and went home to test it out.
Wow! OUT works awesome. The smell was instantly gone and so was the stain. It has a nice aroma to it as well kind of like Febreeze. Ever since then, I always keep a bottle under my sink for those just-in-case moments. With five cats and three dogs in the house, you just never know what may arise.
Not only does this work on carpet and hard floors, it works on furniture and bedding and even clolthing. Well, with three little boys in the house, there is bound to be a potty accident in bed. Yep, it works for human urine as well. So no more stained and smelly matresses now. I do not know how it works on really old stains and odors (as mine were recent,) but it would be interesting to know if it does in fact work on those as well.
OUT was a life saver for me, I hope it works for you as well.
