In order to give your baby the best chance at health, wellness and vitality it is best to pay special attention to your own health. The time frame of most importance is that just before, during, and the first weeks after conception.
You should consider making an appointment with your healthcare provider. Getting a physical now will allow you to evaluate your overall health. By getting a thorough-examination, you will learn what aspects of your health to focus on and what changes you may want to implement. Those with health concerns should definitely consult their health care provider prior to conception to ensure that any potential medical challenges are understood and considered.
Be sure to consume a balanced diet. Good nutrition will ensure that your future baby has all the tools needed to thrive from the moment of conception. Sound nutrition now will also safeguard your own health. Getting all the vital nutrients your body needs will improve your health. It will also provide the strength and energy you need to sustain nine taxing months of pregnancy. Foods of particular value include green leafy vegetables and legumes. Be sure that you are getting adequate amounts of folic acid in your diet. If not consider taking a nutritional supplement, consuming fortified cereals, or switching to whole wheat bread.
Get active. If you are not already physically active now is the time to achieve optimum health. Make a commitment to move. Enroll in a yoga class, promise to take a walk after dinner, or create an elaborate routine. Ideally, we should be active for at least twenty minutes, five days a week. A strong, fit body will be that much more prepared to tackle the challenges of pregnancy. Making a habit of moving now will not only create a base of optimum health, but it will help shed post-baby pounds later on.
Stop Drinking, smoking and/or illegal drug use. Why take the risk? These habits only spell danger for a vulnerable fetus. Protect your baby from the start by eliminating these toxins from your body.
Talk with your doctor about eliminating any and all non-essential medications. The fewer chemicals in your body, the lower the risk of complications for your baby. Keep in mind that everything you consume will be passed on to your baby.
If you experience anxiety or depression, you will want to seek assistance in dealing with these issues prior to conception. Pregnancy brings a tide of hormonal changes, which often escalate emotions. Deal with these troubles now, and you will allow yourself the opportunity to truly enjoy your pregnancy.
