Gardens of Kaneohe on the Windward shore of Oahu. Older children may enjoy the variety of endangered plants found here. Some of the native and tropical plants are poisonous, so very young children should be watched to prevent accidental poisoning. No swimming is allowed in the 32-acre lake. For families wishing to avoid the Honolulu crowds, the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort and Spa at Ko Olina has a program for keikis from ages five to twelve. Beachcomber Club activities for a full or half day include exploring tidal pools, making leis, and learning how to dance the hula. Reservations may be made by contacting the Resort at (808) 679-0079. Parent s need not leave their youngest children with grandparents when visiting the island of Oahu. Plenty of experiences and memories can be shared with the entire family through a little planning ahead of time.
