So what if the National Park Service restricts visitors from carrying diaper bags or using strollers or baby backpacks when seeing the USS Arizona Memorial and other maritime museums in Honolulu? The island of Oahu has many activities and places which a family with young children can enjoy.

The Hawaii Children's Discovery Center is composed of four galleries of hands-on, interactive fun including a Tot Spot for guests younger than five years old accompanied by an adult. The Fantastic You gallery is all about the workings of the human body, while Your Town encourages youngsters to pretend they are engaged in adult occupations like acting or working on cars. Hawaiian Rainbows teaches children about the culture and history of Hawaii. Your Rainbow World assembles traditions of many cultures and presents them in an interactive way. Kids of all ages like animals and the Honolulu Zoo found at 151 Kapahulu Avenue in Honolulu is sure to please. Animal exhibits include 28 endangered species like black rhinos, white rhinos, golden lion tamarins, palm cockatoos, scarlet macaws, Komodo dragons, and Galapagos tortoises. This being Hawaii, there is a lei garden and plans for a butterfly exhibit. In the center of the zoo is a playground and a giraffe statue for photo opportunities. Near the zoo boundaries by Kapahulu Avenue is the Keiki (Children's) Zoo with domestic animals and a discovery center. Th e Waikiki Aquarium at 2777 Kalakaua Avenue in Honolulu has been in existence since 1904. Seals are a child's favorite and the Aquarium has a monk seal population. The Hunters On the Reef Exhibit features sharks, groupers, and other reef dwellers and if there at the right time of the week, children may get to see the keepers feeding the sharks. Sea Life Park is located in Waimanalo, east of Honolulu near Makapuu Point. While babies may not appreciate the sights of the Park, toddlers and elementary school children will enjoy the sea life of the Hawaiian Reef Aquarium, the Touch Tank and Penguin Habitat area, and sea lion and dolphin shows.
