Traveling with kids in Oahu

Oahu in native Hawaiian means "the gathering place." What better place for mom, dad and the kids to gather than Oahu, Hawaii. Come along and experience the many exciting and fun attractions that the whole family can enjoy while vacationing in this exotic lap of paradise.

Hawaii Duck Tours 803 Waimanu Street Tel. 808/988-3825

This once-in-a-lifetime fun ride on a fully restored amphibious WWII DUKW or "Duck," spells fun for the kid in everyone. Even mom and dad will be entertained while touring Honolulu, Waikiki and Pearl Harbor in this fun loving adventure. Drop by Duck tours and prepare for a good time.

Go fly a Kite at Kapiolani Park 3840 Paki Avenue Tel. 808/971-250

This urban park is a perfect location for kite flying. Kids of all ages can watch the pros or join in on the fun by checking out the kite shop in the New Otani's arcade across the street.

Hawaii Children's Discovery Center 111 Ohe Street Tel. 808/524-5437

Kids and interactive fun is what this Discovery Centre is all about. Across from the Kaka'ako Waterfront Park, this fun centre sports a cyber-robot who plays volley with the kids. From dressing up as a purple octopus, to playing with clay, and taking painting classes, your kids will thank you for giving them the time of their lives. The centre is a short bus ride away from Waikiki (Bus no. 19 or 20) and Ala Moana Center (Bus nos. 55,56, and 57).

Bishop Museum's Science Adventure Center 1525 Bernice Street Tel. 808/848-4158

This new centre specializes in volcanology, oceanography, and biodiversity. Kids can play with high-tech toys, and then wander through the "Hawaiian origins" tunnel into the deep, mysterious ocean. From there, climbing up through the interior of a volcano gives them a breathtaking view of an erupting caldera. For your young astronomers, The Jhamandas Watumull Planetarium is a must.

African elephants, giraffes, zebras and roaring lions highlight this zool By night, the eerie "Zoo by Moonlight" tour will wake up any sleepy, heavy lidded eyes.

Kids get close up views of reef sharks, living corals, Hawaiian monk seals and much more. This attraction spells family fun.
