Soccer player profiles: Adam Murray

Created on: January 27, 2009

Adam Murray is a professional football midfielder that currently plays for Oxford United in the Blue Square Premier League. Murray has been with Oxford since January 2008, and since arriving at the club has established himself as a real top performer in the team. Named as the Oxford United captain at the start of the 2008/09 season, Adam Murray quickly stepped down from the position after only a few games in charge as he felt that his performances were suffering under the pressure of being captain of the club. Since stepping down as captain, Adam Murray has returned to his best, and is now once more a fantastic talent in the Oxford United first team.

Beginning his career as a professional with Derby County in 1998, Murray made his debut for the club in April 1999, and went on to make fifty four league appearances for Derby. Loaned out to Mansfield Town and Kidderminster Harriers during his time with the club, Murray made appearances in both the Premier League and Championship with Derby, but in November 2003 the Birmingham born player moved on to play for Notts County.

After leaving Derby County, Adam Murray faced a tough six months in football. Hardly picked to play for Notts County, Murray also spent a week with Burton Albion in which he made two appearances for the club. Making only five league appearances in six months; Adam Murray was suffering from not playing regular first team football, all that was to change though when he moved to Mansfield Town in the summer of 2004.

A consistent performer in the 2004/05 season with Mansfield, Murray scored five goals for the club in thirty two league appearances, and the following summer moved on to play for Carlisle United. Again impressing with Carlisle, Murray spent a season with the Cumbrian club before again moving on in his career and joining Torquay United in August 2006.

Spending a successful five months with Torquay, Adam Murray was signed by Macclesfield Town in January 2007, and spent twelve months with the club before moving on to play for Oxford United in the following January. Adam Murray has really made an impression in the Blue Square Premier since joining Oxford United, and is without doubt one of the best midfielders in the squad. Murray can always be relied on as a player, and never does he fail to impress with his hard work and strong performances on the field.

Adam Murray is a very talented midfield player, he makes some excellent challenges in his position, and also has a fantastic eye for goal. He's a strong presence in the Oxford United midfield, and always when he plays he gives 100% for his club. A popular player at Oxford United, 27 year-old Adam Murray will no doubt remain with Oxford for some time to come, and continue to impress with his performances in the yellow and blue colours of Oxford United.
