Poetry: The unsolved mystery of death

by Carolyn O'Brien

Created on: January 27, 2009

I've heard about death from the banshee

A-wailing and a-moaning

Rattling chains and weilding scythes

a-shreiking and a-groaning

Haunting from a desperate fear

calling forth their demons

who cruelly pass their judgement

with a wrathful vengeance

Spirits of the dead

Limbo - this day hence

I've heard about death from the angels

astride white and fluffy clouds

plucking delicately at their harp strings

heavenly songs

enticing you on

midst softly beating wings

I've heard about death from the avatars

a loving death that nurtures

a welcome friend embracing us

our kharma, all our answers

Enveloped in a fateful kiss

our death, our birth, our bliss

I've heard about death up and down

but there's one thing for certain I know

among the bleached and tangled bones

kings lie with peasants and fools with crones

From graves deep and dark

to skies high and light

who's to say who was wrong or right?

No-one to tell your name, your plight

No-one to tell the black from the white
