Single-blessedness is an interesting piece, among other things, during this singular day of each year, which is set aside for love, romance, and passion. Being single into the day of exchanging flowers, cards, and loving sentiments mixed with warm emotions of admiration, affection, and infatuation including red-hot passion can induce lonesomeness and self-doubt.
I spent my earliest twenty not tied down with a steady relationship. Social life was what I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it. However, the thought of Valentine's Day romantic evenings, candlelight dinners, and long walks with someone special sometimes make things look a little dismal.
While being singled out has its obvious freedoms and the likes, Valentine's Day still brings out the moans and groans from those who are saving the best for last.
However, take heart because there are numerous ways you can still enjoy this romantic holiday without blowing your single-blessedness. Here are anti-Valentine's Day tips for singles to enjoy less the pressures that often come with the celebration.
One great way to go through Valentine's Day without worrying about the damage you might incur, is to think outside of the box. For singles who say, "I hate Valentine's Day."
* Stay away from roses, the standard Valentine flowers. There are other bouquets and arrangements you can consider if you want flowers for mom.
* Avoid listening to love songs or attending Valentine's Day concerts. They can make you feel crazily romantic and creative.
* Patronize only singles bar where only singles go, under your discretion.
* Keep yourself busy by working late, especially if you are the kind that eventually loses control to tears.
* Do something but not in places or in the paths of cooing couples.
Valentine's Day is not all infatuation and red-hot passion. For singles who say, "Who cares...?"
* Have Valentine dinner with friends as an appreciation for the companionship.
* Send Valentine Cards, to express your gratitude, to people who have inspired and helped you.
* Take your little nieces and nephews out for ice cream or wish them well with a box or two of rich chocolates and other calorie-laden delicacies.
* Be an angel. Make a Valentine basket for a relative or friend, who is going through a difficult time.
* Make someone happy. Secretly send flowers to a heartbroken and distraught friend with card signed, "From Your Valentine."
* Valentine's Day can be a great way to discover alternative parties for this celebration.
* Realize that Valentine's Day is about love and relationships. Make time for a fabulous Valentine's Day family dinner.
Although we know little about the actual origin of Valentine's Day, it has always been a day that celebrates messages of affection, love, and devotion around the world-celebrating not the physical aspect of one, relationship status or the absence of a romantic partner. Therefore, it is for all of us, including God, who is single.
If you are single, celebrate Valentine's Day with all the chocolates, hearts, flowers, and love messages. Send them to family, and friends. Do not let a couple-driven culture and the fiery desire of love define your choice, different strokes for different folks.
