Novel excerpts: Fantasy

"Please God, let this work!" A cry of pain and anguish filled the air, as did the smell of blood and burnt flesh. The knife she had held in her now scorched hand fell to the ground burning the carpet underneath. She looked around her and realized with sad certainty that nothing had changed and that her suffering had been for nothing. The pain was beginning to feel unbearable and her vision was starting to blur, as it often did in the most inopportune moments. The room started to spin almost causing her to fall to knees, as she made her way to the door leading outside. She stumbled forward out into the daylight, and headed towards a place where she hoped she could find answers. People stood, their mouths agape, though none said a word, or at least she didn't hear it if they did.

"Almost there" Luckily in this small town, everything was close by so her destination was mere blocks up the street. Her body ached and she could feel her body rebelling the expenditure of energy. She reached the iron gates and a sudden sinking feeling crept inside her, as it had just occurred to her that they may not be willing to help her or be even home. She pushed open the gate, the screech hurting her ears, and made her way towards the front door.

She could hear arguing coming from just beyond the door and for an instant almost regretted her intrusion. She rang the doorbell and the voices inside stopped, and footsteps came towards the door. A strangely familiar face opened the door and before she could say a word, the pain became too much for her to bear and she blacked out...

She awoke what may have been hours later in a strange room, the pain though somewhat dulled still lingering. The room was quite drab with grey paint all over and a charcoal colored carpet. The curtains let in very little light making it hard to tell at first whether or not it was day. A vase of dried black roses sat on the table next to the bed and she nearly knocked it over as she stood up to test her legs. A man with pale blue eyes and shoulder length blonde hair about her age startled her causing her to lose her balance. He was tall and extremely thin almost emaciated and the tee shirt which proudly proclaimed "an orgasm is better than a bomb ~Bernardo Bertolucci,"
appeared several sizes too large for his delicate frame. The man equally caught off guard, managed to catch her before she hit the floor, and then set her gently back on the bed.

"Good you're up. I...I should go get the others..." The mysterious man
