Which spiritual and personal goals to strive for depends on our own particular priorities. For some of us getting out of bed is as easy as blinking an eye, but for others it is an enormous and painful struggle every day to fulfill that action. A simple goal to some can be a complex emotional maze to others. But no matter what the situation, a goal requires commitment. And sometimes the humility and ability to let it go. Never compare what you have done, or haven't done against someone else. This is a sure-fire way to defeat your purpose. And why would you want to have the exact same goals as someone else, just to prove that you can do it too?
Ask yourself what type of achievement do you want during this lifetime?
Is it financial? Artistic? Spiritual? These goals can be in many forms; raising children to be the best they can be, finishing that novel or painting, feeling more self-confident, stepping out the front door, finding a faith that fits your heart, or coming to terms with whatever has caused you to undervalue your potential and overcoming it. There is no universal list of what you should follow. It is up to you to find which goals would serve you best to fulfill. This is not meant in an egotistical way. It is not about 'how many' goals you can accomplish, but the quality of what you have done.
Many people exclaim 'I want to see the world' and set about stressing over 'the perfect timing' to do this. They insist they must see it all at once instead of enjoying what they are able to see. And instead of seeing what they can see, they end up seeing nothing and become lost in anger and frustration at that one goal being unfulfilled.
We can only do the best that we can do each day. A goal can have many little tiny goals attached to it that are surmountable. Instead of going for the biggest, each day work on the little ones that will lead you right to it and before you know it, you will have accomplished it!
And learn to forgive yourself when mistakes are made. No path to a goal is ever perfectly smooth. Enjoy what you have done and do not chide yourself for what you have not!
