Poetry: Demons

by JCW

Created on: January 26, 2009

From time to time I feel

I never wake from dreamin'

At times I'm confined

Never to escape my demons

Wounds from my past

Determine what Ive become

What hasn't killed me

Has only made my heart numb

Emptiness creeps up

Which I tried putting to death

But It's hunting after me

And I'm running out of breath

I dream in color

And awake to feel dreary

My harmony is evading

I once held so dearly

Twisting my beliefs

Has become an accustom

Facing the truth

Is something I run from

Paint on a smile

And devote to destruction

Trying to get out of

this trap I'm stuck in

I count my blessings

And dear lord I'm grateful

But I've been restless

With a feeling that's hateful

Vindictive, harsh,

Pissed off and bitter

Try to get the best of me

But I'm not a quitter

I wont be destroyed

Wont let this demon win first place

I'm going to catch up

I'll win this unyielding race

Keep on running

Until daylight appears

And I will leave behind

animosity and fear

I won't ever look back

And let us ever collide

I'll keep marching forward

I will not subside
