A guide to the best baby shower games

So someone in your life is having a baby, and you are in charge of planning the perfect baby shower. Having just gone through this experience myself, I have found a bunch of fun baby shower games and crafts that will keep the guests busy and laughing, and the mom-to-be very happy.

Guess the Diapers: My pregnant sister had just one baby shower game request, so how could I disappoint her, especially when this game is so easy. Guess the Diapers works the same way as when you guess how many jelly beans are in a jar; you just need to buy some diapers (be sure to count them) and a container in which to hold them. This container could be a large wicker laundry basket or one of those clear plastic Rubbermaid tubs. At the start of the party, have each of your guests write down how many diapers they think are inside the container. The person who guesses the closest wins a small prize, and the mom-to-be wins the full container, which will provide her with a great starting supply of diapers.

Baby Shower BINGO: The BINGO games are classic at wedding showers and baby showers, so most of your guests will already be familiar with the concept. Just provide each of the guests with a blank BINGO board; you can print off boards from your computer, and perhaps you could fill in the free space with a cute graphic image of a baby carriage or a stork. If it is a large shower, be sure to provide enough prizes for five or six winners. This way the guests will continue to play as the gift-opening continues.

Guess the Baby Item: Here is a game that gets the mom-to-be involved. For this game you will need a blindfold of some sort and a number of small, potentially silly, items related to babies, such as rubber nipples or jarred baby food. The mom-to-be should be blindfolded and placed in the center of the room. One item at a time will be handed to her and she'll have to guess what's she's holding by describing it out loud. At the end of the game, the mom gets to take home these fun items. To make this game really funny, you should try to find very unique items that will stump the mom.

Decorate a Onesie or Bib: I've heard about this baby shower craft, but I've never actually been to a party where it's been done. My sister got very excited by the idea of each of her guests designing a special one-of-a-kind onesie or bib for her baby. All you have to do is buy and pre-wash some onesies and bibs (get onesies in various sizes), enough for each guest to make one, though everyone doesn't have to participate. Then pick up some puffy fabric paint in baby-appropriate colors (pinks, blues, yellows, greens) at your local craft store. If you want to be really creative, you can buy iron-on designs as well, but remember to bring an iron or two and be careful not to leave them unattended. Set up a table at the back of your party room for the guests to decorate their creations.

If you use one or all of these ideas, your baby shower is guaranteed to be a hit!
