My Mother was a beatles fan, and I knew who the beatles were and even knew the words to most of their songs. When I was 13, New Kids on the Block were my beatles. Over my teenager years, I made numerous NKOTB friends, collected all their tapes, posters, dolls, life size buttons, newspaper articles, and anything else I could get my hands on. I was allowed to stay up late to watch them on music award shows....and then the craze was over. I was left with my duffel bag (new kids duffel bag) of souveniers and memorabilia. Even some of my friends moved on when they did. They were a huge part of my "wonderful" teenage years so of course I would never forget them!

Now I am married and have children of my own. My NKOTB duffel bag came with me and my Husband eagerly put it in the attic with a few choice words I ignored. Now my kids have thier idols. I had to sit through Hannah Montana and two Jonas brother concerts and while I understand their "love" for them, it was not the same as the NKOTB love. In my opinion, they tried but did not succeed. What I did notice and remembered when I was watching my Daughter and her friends was how many many years ago that was me and my friends and how five boys from Boston brought us together and for a moment gave us the best time of our lives...so we thought.

Shortly after the Hannah concert the rumors started flying about a NKOTB reunion. My Mother actually called me to tell me the news and my Husband just rolled his eyes. So what I did next was monumentom. I crawled into the attic and brought out my bag of "stuff". The coolest part about that day is my eight year old actually thought I was cool because I had all of these items....just like she does with her "idols". So she and I spent the day looking at pictures and articles, laughing and talking all day.

When the official announcement came on in the morning and the curtain was revealed, they did look a little older I will admit but so was I! I had my husband put all the great songs on CD's for me so I could sing in the car and I was first in line to buy their new CD's. As I was standing in line waiting for the CD and talking with the other Mothers, I received a phone call. It was my Husband and he knew where I was....so I wasn't going to answer it. I did not want to hear I'm to old, they are washed up etc...Then, he called right back so I answered it. What he said was music to my ears.
