There is no proof that tea will help a person lose weight. It is time the public faces facts regarding weight loss. There is no secret formula held back by the drug companies, there are no ancient elixirs, there isn't even a magic pill to help you lose weight. There is only one true and proven fact about weight loss: Put fewer calories in your body than it expends and you will lose weight. That is the end of the story, period.
It is true that some teas, especially green teas have higher concentrations of anti-oxidants than say black or red teas. These anti -oxidants have a variety of health benefits. Anti oxidants may be disease or cancer fighters, although just how effective they are is not yet scientifically proven. People have reported weight loss after having tried diets that require the ingestion of various amounts of green tea. They report some luck. It is however a bit af a sham weight wise. If you ingest large quantities of water you will also lose weight. The tea or water is in fact flushing out your system.
People who are overweight as a result of over eating seldom drink large quantities of anything. Their intake is mostly solid food. People like solid foods more than liquids for many reasons, but mostly because we are genetically programmed that way.
The reason America is suffering a huge obesity problem today is a direct result of the availability of calorie dense convenience foods. These foods often contain fats and sugars that process quickly and are used up immediately, the large amounts of unused fuel being converted and stored as fat. Carbohydrates are also good for quick energy but again, excess carbs are converted to and stored as fat. When you add any liquids to your diet these food stuffs become soluble and are helped through the digestive system before being absorbed by the body.
Teas, like other liquids will also fill you up quickly and leave you with a sated feeling. Being liquids however, your body will absorb what it needs and flush the rest. Unfortunately once your body has all the water it needs the rest is released. When it is released and the body is being flushed regularly we will see some weight loss for a short period of time. A good analogy would be your roof gutters. They collect grit from shingles and tree debris half rotted and slowly they fill up, get heavier and the rate of flow slows. Put a hose to the gutters and let the rain start to flow again and before you know it they run slick as...well as they should. They are clean
