Poetry: A girl I know

by Marea E. Johnson

There's a girl I know
who can't stop crying
Who wants to live
but can't stop dying.

There's a girl I know
who hides away
Stays up all night
can't face the day.

There's a girl I know
who's crippled inside
Who can't take her sadness
and set it aside.

There's a girl I know
who's such a yawn
Can't figure out
how she's gonna go on.

This girl I know
I don't really know at all
For she lives within a fortress
that's mighty, steep, and tall.

The girl that I once knew
is gone and gone forever
For the one she loved
will return to her never.

This stupid girl I speak of,
it's clear for all to see
That this broken miserable creature
is none other than me.
