Did you ever stop to think
About who I really am?
What makes me tick, what makes me weep?
Did you try to see all that you can?
Did you ever bother
To see beyond my appearances?
Or did you think you knew it all
Knew what made me fall to pieces?
This, I have to say
You have mastered in knowing
Because ever since I met you
You've made me catch myself bowing
To you.
But that's all gone now
I am better than that
And one day you'll see
I was the best you've ever had.
And you will see me
Just as I am:
In all of my splendor,
Which you overshadowed with fears
In all of my beauty,
Which you muddied with tears
In all of my eloquence
Which you cut at the knees
In all of my humor
Which you forever will miss
You'll miss my free-spirit
Which you so much wanted to crush
And my spontaneity,
Which you know gave you a rush
And then you will wish
For just one more chance
To appreciate me,
To stop being so crass
To love each fiber of my being
To show you've got class.
To hold me again,
To know I am yours
To swear you will love me
Through our highs and our lows
But it is much too late.
You have pushed me away
And now,
I look from a distance
And turn my back on today.
