What makes a great educator?

Looking back on my years in middle and high school, it has become ever more apparent that there is a clear distinction between the good educators and the great. When one examines the field of education, and in specific, the educator, it becomes clear that educators require skills in not just education, but also public speaking, and potentially theatre. In order to be a proficient and excellent educator, one must focus on the fields of public speaking, entertainment, and most importantly, education itself.

There is more to teaching than just lecturing. Just about every person on the planet can compile facts together, and give a long and boring lecture. What takes skill and makes educators good at what they do, is making their lecture dynamic and interesting. The best possible way to do this is to be competent in the field of public speaking. By becoming a commanding speaker, and an interactive teacher, educators can strive for excellence like never before. The most important part of public speaking, is the confidence that you project to the audience. If students so much as catch a scared glance, the lesson that is being taught will no longer matter to them, because the students are under the impression that the educator does not know the subject. The second most important part of the lesson is to involve the entire class in the lecture. By calling on students and making them participate, the majority of students will pay more attention, so that they do not embarrass themselves in front of the class. By being confident and making lectures interactive, educators will improve the classroom setting, and improve their career as well.

The majority of great school teachers make the lesson enjoyable and interesting. Whether it be through humor, or even possibly acting, making the lesson interesting makes all the difference on the grades. When students are under the impression that the educator is at easy and having a good time, it typically causes the student to be at ease. With a more relaxed atmosphere in the classroom, students will ask more questions, learn more on the subject, and score higher on tests. In-cooperating humor into the lesson also causes students to be more alert, and focused on the lesson, since they are also interested in the humor.

Before being a great educator, you need to make sure you know your topic to a tee. Students will ask many questions, and if you do not know all the material you are lecturing on, then you might be in trouble. The best thing you can do as an educator, is to read up on the topic into detail. It could be a think-tank paper, or a book, just make sure that before the lecture is given, you as an educator, know everything you could possibly know about the subject. If a student believes you do not know what you are talking about, that said student will then ignore your lesson, and distract nearby students. However, if the material is knowledgeable and makes sense, then the student will listen and learn from the lesson.

Overall, there are many qualities that make up a great educator, but out of all of those qualities, confidence is the most important. Confidence, Humor, and Education are a dynamic group that work astoundingly well together. The combination of all three makes the best possible educator, which in turn will also make the smartest possible class. Educators across the United State should strive to improve their public speaking, acting, and knowledge, if they wish to be the best.
