What you think is junk may be someone else's treasure. Always keep this in mind when you're getting rid of electronics. If you want to get rid of an old microwave, refrigerator, stove, etc, places like Goodwill either dispose of them for you for free, or pass them on to other people wo need them. Also, organizations like Lupus or ARC will drive by your home and pick up items you no longer need, and donate them to the less fortunate.
If you are getting rid of a computer, or cell phone, or any other device in which personal data may be stored, make sure to do a thorough sort through the contents of them before giving them away. MAke sure all previous passwords on your computer are cleared, and all personal data along with it. Leave only the software that came with the set-up when you originally bought it.
For cell phones, be sure to delete all phone numbers, for obvious security reasons. Also keep in mind that some manufacturers accept their old and used products, and may give you a discount on the next product of theirs of which you wish to purchase.
It is never a good idea to just dump old electronics in a dump at some place, because many of today's electronic waste contain potential pollutants, and can damaga air quality, and affect the way vegetation grows.
Always dispose of your electronic waste responsibly, effectively, and maybe even dispose of them in a way that you benefit from.
