The demand for adult education has risen and will continue to increase in the future. Educated employees allow companies to remain competitive, keep up with cultural changes, and avoid liability. As such, jobs that require an education typically pay more. With education becoming more accessible and convenient, more people are seeking to further their education to increase earning and employment opportunities.

Accessibility and Convenience

Education has become more accessible to Americans who were financially unable to pursue an education in the past. The Hope Tax Credit and the Lifetime Learning Tax Credit are already helping ease the financial burden that comes with attaining an education. If President Obama has his way, financial hardship will no longer keep education out of reach for any American. The American Opportunity Tax Credit that has been proposed by Obama is intended to fund 75% of tuition in a University or 100% of tuition at a community college.

Every time one door closes, another one opens. As more and more jobs are being cut, we are seeing people seek training and education to change their career path. With the availability of training programs available to the unemployed, people are able to turn dire circumstances created by job loss into an opportunity for a better future.

On-line degrees are a growing part of our education system. More and more colleges are offering classes on-line and many offer degrees that can be obtained entirely on-line. The convenience of on-line school makes pursuing an education more attractive. This is especially true for adults who would otherwise not be able to seek a degree due to the demanding schedules of their lives.

Becoming and Remaining Competitive

Companies seek to hire educated employees because it enables them to remain competitive. Employees continue their education to retain their jobs by remaining competitive. Employees must keep up with the constant changes that come with advancing technology and changes in professional culture. Pursuing a higher degree or more in depth job training increases the chances of promotion and financial gain.

Cultural Changes Create Opportunities

The rising number of immigrants in the country has created a need for adult education in several aspects. Employees who do not speak English create a need for bilingual managers and trainers. This creates a higher demand for education in foreign languages. People who want to learn English create the need for Adult English Classes. Many adults who so not speak English fluently have children who may also need more instruction. This creates the need for teachers who are bilingual.

Technology is playing an increasingly important role in the job market. More and more jobs are requiring computer skills. Industry is becoming mechanized. An increasing number of people are taking classes to gain and maintain skills that are needed in todays job market.

As we continue to evolve as a society, the demand and desire for education will continue to grow. Education is not a means to an end, but a continuous path through the future.
