No No No No No!

There is no reason that I could comprehend why anyone in their right mind should blow $22,000 on a pet. We have four cats, all of which are natural or cross breeds which are a joy to own but if I had been asked to pay 100 for any of them I would have refused, not only because I don't have that sort of money to spend on pets but also because no pet is worth that much money. We have pets for companionship, not as status symbols. The other very good reason for not interfering with nature's own methods is that whenever Humankind has tried to modify the natural world the results are invariably disastrous.

If I had the sort of income that would allow for such extravagance I would be inclined to use it to support a welfare scheme that would benefit human beings, it is obscene that people could create and buy ludicrous hybrid animals when there is real poverty to be tackled not just in the third world but in England and even in the USA, where social equality has still to be achieved, despite recent significant milestones of progress.

What can an Ashera offer as a pet that can't be gained from owning a good old fashioned moggie or a mongrel mutt? Status is the only thing I can think of and if there are people who need to bolster their egos by a tasteless display of ostentation then it is they who need the help. If happiness can only be acheived by displays of wealth such as a $22,000 cat, a Porsche, Ferrari or similar car or being seen shopping in Harrods then there is something truly wrong with people is general. It is time that we stopped and reconsidered our priorities.

We are reducing a living thing to the level of consumer goods, like luxury cars, jewelry or caviar, all things that we can manage perfectly well without. It is the reliance on consumerism that has led the world into the dreadful economic mess that we are experiencing today. it is time that we stopped thinking about ourselves and started to think about what us really important, like feeding the world, ending inequality and injustice, ending wars and even restoring basic human rights, such as those that are being denied to the inmates of Guantanamo
bay. For a nation that professes to believe in "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and that "All men are created equal" The USA do a great job of looking like a banana republic.

The breeding of such unneeded animals is a crime against nature and good taste. It reduces a living being to the level of a commodity which shows such a deep disrespect for nature that the Human race should feel a deep shame.
