As I sit here trying so hard to come up with something creative to write about, my head is beginning to pulse with the extremely loud music that my husband and I are playing at top volume to torture the people who moved in upstairs today.
Now before you begin to think that we are evil people, let me fill you in.
My husband and I moved across the state a couple of weeks ago and are currently in transition while we look for a place to live and start our lives over in a new place. A bold leap of faith, we left behind everything we knew, threw all of our belongings in storage and split town in our pursuit to follow our dreams to be writers. We had a place lined up and thought we were good to go; until we saw it. I'll just say that you could smell the stench from the curb and leave it at that. So we moved into a hotel with a wireless connection so we could keep writing and here we are.
Week 2 in the Roadway Inn is coming to a close and like last week, going out with a bang. Sleep has been a bit problematic since my parents were kind enough to pass their sick germs onto me last weekend and I have been coughing ever since. And not just a little cough either, this is the kind of cough that pulls muscles in your back and hurts every part of your body indiscriminately. In short, I feel terrible.
I was just drifting back into slumber for about the thirtieth time or so when we heard it. THUMP! It sounded like someone body slamming the floor above us. "Did you hear that?" Launie asked from his computer at the little hotel table by the bed as my eyes fluttered open. Inspiration hit him after only a few hours of sleep and he had gotten up to answer the call of creativity.
"What the heck was that?" I mumbled pulling the pillow over my head when it happened again. THUMP! "Sounds like a %@$# sumo wrestler!"
This continued for several minutes with Launie occasionally pounding the ceiling back until it was clear that this was
