For many centuries, women have used moisturizing creams to keep their skin soft and youthful. Natural beauty recipes date back to the times of Cleopatra and her legendary milk baths. With today's economy, it is wise to learn some tricks of the trade and make a nourishing facial lotion at home rather than buying one for $100 or more. Making a moisturizer cream is easy and fun. Just a few ingredients are needed, and the shelf life is long lasting. It will be used up long before the product expires.

Most of the ingredients required to formulate homemade skin lotion are found in the kitchen cabinet. They include virgin olive oil, stearic acid powder, glycerin, pure water and baking soda. Gather all ingredients and grad a couple oven safe measuring glasses. Put of a cup of olive oil and of a cup of stearic acid powder in one glass. Get out a nice sized pot. Fill it half way with water and let it come to a near boil. Place the measuring glass containing the powder and oil in the water. Heat until the stearic acid powder has completely dissolved in the olive oil.

Next, mix 2 tablespoons of glycerin and teaspoon of baking soda in a cup of pure water. Heat this in the microwave oven for approximately a minute and a half so the solution is hot but not boiling.

Have a big mixing bowl handy and slowly pour the two liquids together. It will foam for a minute or two. Once the foam calms down, take an electric mixer and blend all ingredients together for a few minutes. The lotion will be smooth and creamy when it is time to stop mixing.

Before this fresh and natural moisturizer can be used, it needs to sit until it is completely cool to the touch. Once it is, take a small amount and spread it on the face and neck. This cream can be used day and night and works great under foundation.

This lotion will moisturize the face and prevent and smooth fine lines and wrinkles just like the expensive brands. The mixture's main component, olive oil, is one of Mother Nature's original beauty secrets and skin preservers. Olive oil is not just a moisturizer; it is also a skin purifier. In addition to using this cream on the face, it is effective as a body lotion. It works great on legs after shaving, and it makes hands soft and smooth. It might never be necessary to purchase moisturizer again.
