On January 14, 2008 my third child, Evan entered the world. His birth was very different from my first two. First of all, let me tell you a bit about my girls. My first daughter was born May 25, 2000-I was going to be induced with her, but when I got to the hospital, I found out she was breech, so I had a c-section. My second daughter was born December 17, 2001. I decided to try a vaginal birth after c-section, and I was induced with her. She was born without complication.
So, here it was, 6 years later, and I was having my third child. I got divorced in 2006 and remarried in 2007, so this would be my new husband's first child (part of the reason I decided to go through this crazy roller coaster another time!). From the start this pregnancy was very different from my last two, so I hoped and prayed it would be a boy (partly because there was already too much estrogen in my house, and partly to make my ex-husband spitting mad because he never had his "boy"). To my utter amazement and joy, the ultrasound showed a very prominent little boy part sticking out! My little boy was (and is not) shy!
If you remember from earlier in my story, I never experienced real labor. I had no idea what it was like to go into labor the natural way. My little one's due date was February 1st, and my girls were not a bit early, so on Sunday, January 13, I never expected to go into labor. My husband and I had a relaxing Sunday. We slept in late, had a big breakfast, and played a furious game of Mario Olympics on the Wii. I joked that the game was going to put me into labor...After I won the game, my husband talked me into taking a little "nap" (if you know what I mean) before he headed to the gym. After the "nap", he took off and I jumped into the shower. While showering I felt some really different feeling contractions. Could this be it?
About an hour later, the contractions were about 6 minutes apart, so I tried calling my husband. He NEVER answers his cell phone, so I wasn't surprised when I couldn't get in touch with him. I thought about calling the gym, but instead I simply texted him that I "might" be in labor. I was very calmly playing solitaire on the computer when he came tearing up the street and parked half-way on the sidewalk (first baby for him, remember).
We started to make our way to the hospital, not knowing if I was really in labor or not. I was mentally planning some sub plans for my class for the next week (I'm a teacher) as my husband nearly drove off the road. We made
