Is America ready for a gay president?

gay. Lesbians were still pretty much in the closet. When I was growing up, my mother had gay friends too: it didn't take her long after my
father's death to learn that a woman who preferred the company of men could have some very good and rewarding friendships with gays. It is the only kind of close male-female relationship that never ends with a proposition at the end of the evening, so a lot of the tension that develops between men and women on a regular date is missing and real friendship is possible.

On December 28, 2008, the National Geographic channel aired "In the Womb: Identical Twins," about why some genetically identical twins are totally different from each other in appearance, personality, and even sexual preference. Modern technology has allowed researchers to observe the development of identical twins in utero, and genetic knowledge has advanced to the point where scientists are able to explain why identical twins with exactly the same genetic profile can be so different.

It seems that even if genes are identical, mutations to some of the genes can occur for a variety of reasons. If I remember correctly, if the two embryos share a placenta, there is an actual fight for survival going on in the womb. The stronger of the two will try to take more than its fair share of nutrients. There's even a bit of physical bullying that goes on, fights for dominance. Although I don't remember the exact reason, mutations of some genes can happen during this struggle. One possible genetic malfunction can cause different testosterone/hormone levels in each embryo, which leads to physiologic differences that can actually predetermine that one identical twin will be straight as an arrow, and the other will be gay.

There have been many studies over the years in an effort to determine whether being gay is a choice or is determined by forces that were beyond our understanding at that time. Years ago, I read that there are brain-size differences between straight and gay males, with gay male brains being closer to the average weight of female brains than to average male brains.
Genetalia may not fully develop; transgendered people may have both male and female reproductive systems. Many of these people have been surgically altered and raised as little girls or little boys, depending on which gender their parents preferred. Many of them have committed suicide because they were forced into a gender that was exactly opposite of what their bodies told them they should be.
