Absolutely not! Just because he has changed his name and began the process of becoming a female, Thomas is indeed still a woman.
Thomas has yet to undergo all the final surgical procedures to make him a female. Thomas still has all his (or hers depending on how you look at it) female reproductive system. The uterus, fallopian tubes, etc are all still in tact. The fact that he has taken hormones in order to deepen his voice and grow facial hair does not make him a male. Aside from the name change, Thomas is still a female anatomically.
I think Thomas portraying himself as the "First pregnant man" is a joke. Having facial hair and a deeper voice does not make you a male. Simply having breast removal does not make you a female either. If Thomas does indeed want to be a female then he needs to go the full 100% and have his complete female anatomy removed. I think Thomas is living in a world where he wants to have his cake and eat it too. Thomas says he has felt like a male for several years, then I think the feeling of wanting to carry a child would not be high on his list of priorities. After all, men do not carry children, so someone who has always felt like a man would not have the urge. I understand his wife can no longer have children, but for him to say he is a male yet carry a full term baby (and now another one) is hypocritical to what he says he believes.
The fact Thomas had a child is nothing the world should be marveling over. Sure I imagine it was odd, and quite curious, to see someone walking around with a beard and a pregnant belly. I imagine it caused much confusion to certain people, especially kids who are old enough to understand that women carry babies in their stomachs, but not yet old enough to realize that Thomas is living a lifestyle in which he lives as a man yet still is a woman.
I can only hope that this does not cause in form of confusion for their child in the future when it is old enough to hear the story of how daddy carried her in his stomach for 9 months, instead of mommy. Hopefully the world will step back and realize that medical history has NOT been made, when in fact Thomas was born a female and still has all of his female anatomy. At some point in time I think Thomas needs to step up and instead of portraying himself as "the pregnant man" and admits to himself that he is indeed still a woman and that until he undergoes a full sex change will be a woman.
