I open it, tentative
Spring back the locks
And regard it warily
This little brown box
I stare at it, sift it,
Pick out all the scars
I'm peeling back layers
I'm breaking down bars
I'm watching it warily
Hiding me deep
Whilst seeing there secrets
That I long to keep
It looks at me, asks me
Entreats me to see
What horrors, what stories
This box could set free
I sigh; resignation
My past lies unlocked
As it spills out before me
My life. In a box.
