There seemed to have been a collective gasp and wince around the world on the morning of January 4th, 2008. This was when word spread like wildfire that Britney's demise had come to an all new low. And yes, we were shocked that even her shaved head and nude shopping excursions weren't the lowest of the low fro her. For many, and for Britney Spears herself, this day was what would be seen as her rock bottom. Until then, Britney Spears had been making headlines by acting erratically in public, missing court appearances for the custody of her two children, and traumatizing sales women on Robertson Boulevard in the aforementioned nude and bald shopping excursions. Though her fall was predicted after events such as these, none would have expected a night like that of January 3rd.

It was January 3rd 2008 when police were called to her home, along with the natural selection of ambulances and other emergency personnel. Many details of that night are skewed and blurred, much like Britney's state of mind given that she was blazing drunk and under the influence of heaven only knows what. The scene was in fact so chaotic that her backyard neighbour, one of those Hollywood pretty types by the name of George Clooney, was speculating a change in real estate if these shenanigans were going to continue. As the sirens blared and the scent of stale alcohol filled the air, Britney Spears was forced to hand over her children to the authorities and succumb to a psychiatric 72 hour hold at Cedars Sinai Medical Hospital.

And as we all know, this was the beginning of a new beginning for her. The world waited with breath that was baited to hear how bad off she was, and then fully expected to see her plunge into that blank space of nothingness that celebrities disappear to when they can't crawl their way out of the gutter. (What IS Michael Jackson doing these days, anyway?)

Good thing she dropped off the face of the earth for a little bit while she got her act together as well, otherwise we wouldn't have gotten to know her media hungry parents very well, nor would we have learned the intimate details of her baby sister Jamie Lynn's pregnancy, birth, and just exactly how Jamie Lynn lost the baby weight at the ripe age of 17.

But she stunned us all, in what is easily the biggest comeback of not only 2009, but perhaps even of the century. What is more stunning about this comeback? That she managed it at all, or that she did so with a full head of hair to boot? Since that fateful night her accomplishments are many. She's launched her sixth album which has sat at the top of almost every chart since its release. With this album she snagged three MTV Video Music Awards, has performed with both Justin Timberlake and Madonna (but not at the same time, cuz THAT would be weird). All in the space of a year.

As she prepares for her first world tour in five years, Britney Spears continues to amaze us. When she is finished her tour, she will have extended visitation and longer custodial visits with her two babies, a new $9 million dollar home to come back to, and an autobiography to launch that will make her mom's look as professional as The Spears Family for Dummies'. Not bad. And certainly not expected. We are very excited to see what she brings next to the table.

But I'm still darned curious. How DOES one grow hair that fast?
