" For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help.
He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight." Psalms 72:12-14
Do you remember the first time you heard about the problems in Africa? Maybe you were attending a concert, watching a news program on television or visiting a website on the internet when something unusual grabbed your attention. The majority of us at first, probably ignored the issue as "just another world problem," but then over time became sensitive to the suffering.
I remember when I began to hear about the AIDS problem in Africa, I felt as though my single sponsorship could not make a difference in a place where thousands of children were dying everyday. "If I sponsored a child, how would my $28 a month contribute to saving an entire continent from a deadly disease?" As I became more overwhelmed regarding this topic, God pointed me to this verse.
" For He will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help. He will take pity on the weak and the needy and save the needy from death. He will rescue them from oppression and violence, for precious is their blood in his sight." Psalms 72:12-14
These verses revealed to me that we need to continually trust God in all situations. These verses provided a sense of peace within my heart knowing that God cares about the weak, the needy, the oppressed, the afflicted and the poor. Don't we all feel weak, poor, and in need at some point in our lives? Knowing that we believe in a God that will "deliver" not only people like us in times of need, but those in situations of hunger, poverty, and disease as well, can assure us that our efforts to help a dying generation are not in vain.
Continually put your trust in Christ that he will provide the necessary healing and resources to save a generation of beautiful, young children in Africa from AIDS.
