Education is the Key to Success.
College to me wasn't always an option. Growing up in a family of non-college students other than my mom, didn't give me any kind of direction. My mom was a full time worker trying to support my after my father died. This left me into the hands of my father's side. Growing up there adapted me to uses of slang and words that never really made much sense. Through this example, I went through life thinking it was okay to randomly make words up and never put to much thought into what I was saying. The best decision my mother made was placing me in a catholic school. This taught me to be organized more than my dysfunctional life was. As I progressed from each grade level, I took a new lesson with me. I started to become more literate and knowledgeable than the one side of my family. I saw progress and superiority over that side of the family. It showed me what my life would be if I slacked off in school. There was no possible way I was going to live my life communicating with only the select few who spoke a language that was made up. I wanted to better myself. I looked up to my mom and her determination and my grandfather and his wisdom. I knew that I had to do something in my life to make things right. I finally reached high school then graduated. I made a decision to go to college. I had to sit back and think about if it was truly what I wanted. To me, college was the key to being successful. Education has taught me various things in my life. Its caused me to look at my life in a whole different aspect than I was raised to think. I was curious. I wanted to learn about things I pondered when I was a kid. I wanted to show everyone in my family I could do something right. I wanted to show them what they were missing out on.
College wasn't just another step up in the education ladder, it was an experience. It was an experience I am now starting. It's the beginning of personal development. A time to expand my mind to things I never thought were possible. College would teach me to be a responsible adult as well as learn new freedoms. I would become smarter and learn how to apply things to
life and my future rather than living in the moment. I knew what I wanted to be when I grew up
and the only possible solution to obtaining that goal was to take the extra step and go through college. I am now the first member of the one side of my family to attend college and, in the future, to graduate college.
