Currency conversion is a simple calculation and any fairly knowledgeable web programmer can create a converter or obtain a pre-built script to install on their website. Most of the websites you find when searching for conversion calculators are designed for the sole purpose of generating ad revenue and are loaded with annoying advertisements. The calculators provided on these sites are normally linked to a central source for updating their information, but the sources are not always reliable.
If you need accurate up to date information you should visit only reputable websites that updates their currency information frequently. The best sites tend to be those that are well known and are active in providing up-to-date news. Below are a handful of websites that are very useful and trusted.
Yahoo Finance - Yahoo Finance has recently redesigned their converter to be more pleasing to the eye and very easy to use. It also allows you to find historical conversions by selecting a past date. What is really nice is the Pocket Guide that provides a quick conversion based on various denominations from about $5 to $1000 US.
DHL What better source to trust in currency conversion than a company that deals in International deliveries on a daily basis? DHL has a very nice simple conversion tool. Enter the amount you want to convert, the currency you're trading and the currency you want to obtain and click Convert. It can't get any simpler.
OANDA OANDA.com is a Forex trading site. Since they are all about currency trading, you can be certain that they have accurate conversion figures. What's really nice is the Quick Converter that is waiting for you on the title bar when you first visit the site. The full conversion tool is also available.
XE - Advertised as the "World's Favorite Currency Site" is another quick and easy to use website; although they do have a number of ads that interfere from time to time. However, the Quick Cross Rates is a nice touch.
Bloomberg Bloomberg has the most comprehensive list of currencies that you can convert; over 200 countries in all. The calculator itself is very simple and straight forward.
Keep in mind that the rates provided on these sites do not include any exchange fees. If you will be traveling, check with your bank to see what their exchange rate is. Banks typically add 3% to 4% on to the conversion to cover their cost for transacting the exchange.
