Commonsense tips to lose weight

Just between 1962 and 2000 obesity in America rose from 13 percent to a startling 31 percent! It is 2009 so we can only assume that obesity is still rising so right now obesity in America is over 31 percent! In plan numbers that's 3 out of 10 adults that is obese and that is pretty bad! If you are one of those three, you are looking for a way out of the vicious cycle of gaining and then losing then gaining more than you lose!

Going through what you are going through, I have actually experienced the despair of weighing at my highest, 200 pounds on a 5'1 frame. It didn't take very long to get there because of course food was my best friend for awhile there! The first step in losing weight is figuring out why you want to lose weight. Losing weight for the right reasons is always the best thing to do because then the motivation will continue to be there.

Losing weight for another person is never a good idea. If you want to lose weight because you really want to look good for yourself or are unhappy with your figure, then that's a good start. The next step would be to figure out the best goal. The best goal would be a BMI of 22. It's a little known fact that if your BMI is 22, you are less likely to get sick and lead longer, healthier lives than people with a different BMI.

Ok now you know how much you are supposed to weigh at a 22 BMI, the next step is setting up smaller goals for shorter time spans. The ideal weight loss goal would be about 2 pounds a week which comes up to between 8 and 10 pounds a month. Don't despair, time will fly and you'll be losing weight before you know it.

We've covered three things so far

1. Figuring out why you want to lose weight

2. Figuring out your long term goal

3. Calculating your short term goals (Ensure you're only asking to lose 2 pounds a week.)

Ok now after these three things, there is still a lot to cover. Right now you know what you're supposed to weigh and what your short term goal is. How are we going to lose weight! The next thing I'd suggest is finding a partner that wants to lose weight too. Setting up a partnership with somebody else not only helps it be more fun, it also motivates people in the longer run knowing that there's somebody rooting them on and being able to root somebody else on.

You and your partner do not have to have common goals in weight loss but ultimately want to lose weight and keep it off. Both of you need to sit down and set up a weekly schedule. You are supposed to work out at least 30 minutes three to
