Animal rights in the media

Animal rights issues are largely driven by Hollywood types, and the media is in love with anything Hollywood. It is as if nothing movie or Broadway stars do is wrong. Given a slow news day, you will usually find at least one piece on "animal rights" on national news.

Who defines animal rights, and who sets the boundaries? Are we supposed to give animals more rights than we have?

According to PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) animals are equal to humans. (Of course, most of us think dogs and cats are people too!) Their core belief goes as follows: A rat is a pig is a dog is a boy. In case you don't understand, a rat has a soul that is equal to the soul of a human. Do you feel that way?

Many animal rights' groups want animals to have lawyers. Some want all animal farming and ranching to stop; they consider it a type of servitude. They desire for pet ownership as we know it to end, also. Pets are to be called our animal companions and treated as our equals. Cows, horses, goats, chickens, and so forth are to be allowed to roam free.

As ridiculous as all of this sounds, this is truly the goal of PETA. PETA has had many insane public relations ads, such the one several years ago aiming to disrupt the dairy industry. Instead of "Got Milk?" that the Dairy Council made popular, they rolled out the "Got Beer" campaign aimed at college students to discourage them from drinking milk. This ad got the media's attention. While many college students agreed with this, their parents were appalled. PETA pulled this ad campaign.

I use the example of PETA as they are the most famous such organization, but there are other such groups, such as the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), not to be confused with your local Humane society, which runs the local animal shelter.

Animal rights' groups desire for all of us to be vegans - not just vegetarians who may eat cheese, drink milk, and even have eggs, but not to consume anything that has its origins from animals. It is not enough for them to follow this diet; they wish to impose their will upon the mainstream population.

The more the media sucks up to PETA and other such organizations, the more mainstream Americans are accepting equality of animals with humans. This is a dangerous path. Hollywood is brainwashing our children (and adults) to believe that animals have the same emotions as humans, even that they behave in the most altruistic manner, in other words, animals display the best of human behavior. This is done through animation, which we parents just love to take our children to see. Most of us are city-slickers and do not discuss animated films with our children. We do not understand the proper role of animals and the command God gave us the command to be good stewards over the earth - animals included.

Remember that God gave man dominion over the animals, not the other way around. Don't be brainwashed by the media's bias towards animal rights' groups. Use your minds and analyze what Hollywood throws at you and your children. Think what your life would be like if animal rights' philosophy becomes mainstream and all their desires are mandated.
