CHASING DEATH
I often chase death
I track it down
I open the body
Look for clues
Follow the trail
Piece together what happened
You become accustomed to death
We all die
Maybe what I find
At autopsy
Will help the next victim
You become accustomed to death
Except

Chasing death
In a child

Numbing
Heartbreaking
Painful
Terrifying
All you can see
As you unfold
The child's journey
Is that
She could have been yours
