Christian debt counseling: Where to look for helpful debt advice

There are many places to look for help in reducing or eliminating debt. Many of these places are scams but there are also a lot that are legitimate. There are also many places that simply cover up the problem. Debt consolidation loans is a prime example.

The best way to get out of debt and stay out of debt involves a change of lifestyle. No one teaches this better than Dave Ramsey. Dave used the bible, millionaires he has talked to and his past experiences to come up with a plan to get out of debt and build wealth. The best way to learn about Dave's plan is to take one of his Financial Peace University classes. They meet one night a week for 13 weeks. Each class lasts about 2 hours. You will watch a video by Dave Ramsey for about 1 hour and then the class will have a review and discussion time for about 1 hour. These classes are going on all the time and just about everywhere. All you have to do is log on to Dave Ramsey's website. There will be a link where you can type in your zip code and a list of classes in your area will pop up. A large majority of these classes are conducted at churches. It will generally cost you about $100 for the materials but it is well worth it. You will get that money back and much more if you follow his teachings.

If you can not scrape together the $100 for the FPU class then I would suggest that you buy Dave's book "The Total Money Makeover". This is basically a condensed version of the FPU class. He basically spends about 15 pages covering stuff that he talks about for 1 hour in the class. Obviously you will not learn as much by simply getting the book as you would by attending class but you will learn enough to change you life...if you are willing to do it.

The third way to find out about Dave's plan is to listen to his radio show or watch his TV show. He has a TV show on the Fox Business Channel. His radio show is syndicated on about 300 stations throughout the United States. Dave takes calls from people that have various financial questions so you will not be learning his plan in any special order. You will just have to listen to the calls and how he answers them to get a feel for how his plan works. You can also go to his website and read information there.

This is a very sound Christian based plan that hundreds of thousands of people have used to help them get out of debt and build wealth. I encourage anyone, no matter what your financial situation is, to take a look at Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University.
