In hard economic times people are looking for money saving tips. Saving money while dining out can be a challenge but if you use a few simple techniques you can stretch your dollar .
Take Advantage of Meal Dals at Fast Food Chains
Many fast chains such as Wendy's and McDonald's offer what are called meal deals. You usually receive a drink, main dish, and side as one meal. When you purchase a meal this way you can save a few dollars as buying each item separately would cost you more. These deals are usually displayed on the menu at the front counter or you can ask what is available. These restaurants may advertise specials in local papers. You can take advantage of these offers and save money. Mcdonalds for example, sends regular coupon books in many areas of the country.
Pick a Buffet Style Restaurant.
Eating at a buffet can provide you with a great selection of food and often at a very good price. This is a great way for a family to eat out and stretch a dollar. .
Share Meals With Family or Friends
Many places you dine at serve a huge amount of food on one plate. It can be a good idea to ask for two plates and share the meal. You can do this with appetizers or with the main meal. Take a group with you when you go out. Purchase larger menu items like pizzas that can be divided up and shared. Everyone can pitch in and split the bill when the meal is over. You can also purchase smaller sized items like drinks for further savings.
Takke Leftovers Home
It makes sense to ask for any leftover food portions to be packed up to take home. Just make sure it can be a food item that can be re-heated and eaten the next day. This saves you money and avoids food waste at the same time.
Skip the Extras
Many restaurants offer extras you can add to the meal. This may include such things as extra cheese, bacon and sauce. Take note of the extras as the costs can be quite high for a few more ingredients added to your meal. You can even be charged for drink refills like coffee in some places.
Use these tips mentioned and you are well on your way to saving money and stretching your dollar at restaurants during tough economic times.
