Poetry: Do you remember the days?

by T.R. Mintz

Created on: January 23, 2009

Do you remember the days she collected Barbies and admired you? I do.

I remember pink icing and crisp dresses of lace and too much make-up on a virgin face.

Do you remember the days he lived for comics and imitated you? I do.

I remember cardboard swords and super hero capes and grass green knees crisscrossed with scrapes.

Do you remember the days she begged for new cds and screeched she hated you? I do.

I remember piercings and concerts and the day she found out love hurts.

Do you remember the days he broke curfew and wondered why he should listen to you? I do.

I remember parties and cars and when he received the first of life's many scars.

Do you remember the day she packed away her clothes and said she'd miss you? I do.

I remember letters in the mail and celebration and her cap and gown at graduation.

Do you remember the day he left in his car and promised he'd visit you? I do.

I remember a bare room and a trunk packed to the brim and wondering how often we'd see him.

Do you remember those days? I do too.
