I have only been to London a hand full of times, mainly when the London Marathon is on and everywhere is packed with runners, but on the occasion that I have visited our capital city on a weekend other than the London Marathon, I have really enjoyed it.
A few years ago, I visited London with my school; we went down overnight and stayed on HMS Belfast for the night. HMS Belfast is best known for her role in the Second World War when she supported advancing allied troops as they made their way onto Gold and Juno beaches on D-Day, June 6th 1944. Today HMS Belfast is moored on the Thames between Tower Bridge and London Bridge and is a museum showing her battle stories and the conditions in which up to 950 crew members lived and fought until her retirement from the Royal Navy in 1965. London is also home to the Imperial War Museum, which is well worth a visit. Over the six floors there is something for everyone to learn. There are exhibitions on the first and second world wars, on the terrible holocaust and even an exhibition on how Britain's secret government agencies MI5 and MI6 have developed since before the first world war and how specialist communications technology has been used to gather intelligence and break top-secret codes!
If you're not a fan of history, there are countless other attractions to see, I would suggest a visit to the London Eye, it has amazing views across the city. From the Eye, you can see famous landmarks such as Big Ben and the House of Parliament. I found this view of London absolutely Breathtaking, seeing everything from so high up really gives you a sense of being.
A place you simply have to visit is Madame Tusades where you can get up close and personal with stars such as Will Smith, Orlando Bloom, Jessica Simpson and The Beckhams as well as The Royal Family! The famous wax works have been attracting visitors for years and is well worth a visit. It's the closest I'm ever going to get to the stars!
Shopping in London is brilliant, Harrods, Hamleys, outdoor markets, you name it London has shops to fit everyone's budget. But in my opinion you have to visit Harrods, it's amazing! There are so many things to buy and see the toy department in great fun!
Finally I would suggest going to see a show, unfortunately, I have never been to see a show in London but many of my friends have and they loved it. They have all made me rather jealous and next time in London I am defiantly going to be checking out a show at one of London's many theatres.
I guess that I do love London, its busy but it's amazing with so much to see and do, everything I have mentioned I did over two days, but there is so much more to see (If your into horror then The London Dungeons are defiantly for you. ) I hope that this article has inspired more you to visit my Capital City.
