Best websites for finding a babysitter

by L.S. Watts

Created on: January 23, 2009

Finding a babysitter can be a daunting task unto itself. Luckily, we have the Internet to aid us in our search for a good caregiver while we are away. There are several sites out there to choose from but I have found a few that are most helpful. Keep in mind though, don't rely upon the internet profiles alone. Always interview each prospective babysitter on the phone and in person.

Also understand that these sites are a service and with most services, there is a price that comes with it. Most sites will let you do a trial search that doesn't give you full access, but it is enough access to see what sitters are available in your area and whether the site is going to be worth your while. I did notice that many of the sitters are listed at multiple sites so you don't necessarily have to join them all. Be sure to compare each site. I also suggest you look at each website's FAQ to get a better feel of what to expect.

BABYSITTERS4HIRE

http://www.babysitters4hire.com

At Babysitters4Hire you are able to search for babysitters closest to you by entering in your zip code. You may then access each babysitter's profile on the list. Each profile allows the babysitter to post their picture, age, gender, location, and contact information. It also contains information about each potential babysitter such as nanny experience, babysitter experience, level of education, certifications, and spoken languages. Each profile contains whether they smoke, can swim, have a driver's license, and their own vehicle. As a bonus the site also has them list their availability, interests, and an essay on what makes them a trusted babysitter. It also list the babysitter's expected rate of pay and whether they are available on short notice.

The website does have a fee. There are two options. Option A is a yearly plan. The registration fee is waived and costs $69.99 for one year. Option B is a monthly plan. There is a registration fee of $14.99 and it will cost $12.00 a month.

SITTERCITY

http://www.sittercity.com

This is a great website to find babysitters, pet care, senior care, home care, and tutoring. At this site, all sitters must be at least 17 years of age. When looking for a sitter in your area, you simply enter in your zip code and it shows all of the sitters available in a 50 mile radius. Each profile contains their name, age, years of experience, and rate at the top. The main part of each profile contains their email, phone number, a short bio, and their availability. At the bottom of the profile
