Should medical marijuana be legalized?

With National Organizations such as, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Nurses Association, American Preventice Medical Association, American Public healt Association, National Nurses Society on Addiction and a lot of State level Organizations supporting the use of Marijuana for medical use, I do not see how we can keep it illegal. There have been multiple studies of Marijuana that prove that it can help with a lot of Ailments. Glaucoma, Assist Aids Patients, Cancer Patients, Proven to stop and sometimes shrink Brain Tumors, slow and some times stop the spread of Breast and Colon cancer. Help the brain produce Dopamine to assist Parkinson's Disease. There are to many benefits to Medical Marijuana to keep it illegal.

The issue comes when people that do not understand these studies and believe that those that want Medical Marijauna legal just want it so they can get high. In 1996 the state of California started allowing medical Marijuana. Since then the Marijuana use of Teenagers was reduced. While the rest of the country is seeing a higher rate of teen Marijuana use the other 12 states have seen either a slower increase, no increase and, like California, and actual Decrease. Marinol is a medication that was created to produce a synthetic THC for Cancer Patients, which proves that there is Medical Value to THC found in Marijuana.

With the growing studys of Marijuana there is also growing support. Stanford University Medical Center Studied the effect of Marijuana on Parkinson's Disease. Kim Janda discovered that Marijuana blocks the formation of brain clogging plaques better than current Alzheimer's Medication. Scientists at California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute that the Compound called CBD found in Cannabis Sativa could be used to stop the spread of Breast Cancer and will be less toxic than Chemotherapy. Marijuana is also used by AIDS patients to stimulate appetites and help avoid Nausea. German researchers realized that marijuana use alleviates symptoms of Tourette's Syndrome. With all of these Studies and findings i still find it hard to believe that the US Government can actually tell Doctors and thier patients that a Drug that is known to help can not be used.

A doctor is suppose to do a risk analysis on a patient to determine the Medication that would best Suit that patient. If a Doctor decides that Marijuana would put that Patient at a lower risk than a perscription medication and the patient would rather use this safer medication, I believe the Government's job is to agree with it. The question should not be "Sould Medical Marijuana be legalized?" The question should be, "Can the Government interfere with a Doctors recomendations?"
