A person's body mass index (BMI) serves as a much better indicator health than just weight alone. BMI is a metric calculation that takes a person's weight (in kilograms) and height (in m) into consideration. The formula is as follows:
BMI=(kg/m*m)
There are many calculators available on the internet that can help a person find their own BMI without having to worry about doing the math.
Determining BMI is useful for knowing whether a person is overweight, healthy, or underweight. These days there are even bathroom scales that can calculate BMI. The general ranges of classification for overweight, healthy and underweight are as follows:
< 18.5 underweight
18.5-24.9 healthy
25-29.9 overweight
30-39.9 obese
> 40 morbidly obese
