From all the things that I am near to
I feel that I'm being drawn
Far apart, made to adhere to
Something lost, already torn.
I don't want my life to crumble,
So I need to carry on
Ignoring the treacherous rumble
Of my tradition's old song.
For I need to find my knowledge
Of the world without someone
Who will not even acknowledge
That my freedom has been won.
Though I'm free to understand it,
Still I don't quite comprehend
As I've travelled through the land, it's
Mademy spirit wane and bend.
Yet meanwhile I have grown stronger,
Fortified by writing, song,
Poetry; the days grow longer,
And yet still I don't belong.
