Yes Americans are stupid. In fact some of us are really stupid. I know I've worked for many of them. Actually, the root of our problems is that we're arrogant, which is a popular form of stupidity. We tend to feel that because we're the most powerful nation on earth that we must have done something right. That thought is partially correct.
We inherited a country with tremendous resources. The inheritance came from people who either bought, stole, or discovered those resources. If we really look at America we have to admit that we took most of it from the Indians, and some from Mexico and bought the rest from other countries who needed money at the time.
We also put a lot of spirit and enthusiasm into what we do; or at least some of us do. Our forefathers probably did significantly more to provide for our future than we do for ourselves. We've actually become somewhat lazy as a country. Its obvious that many of us are overweight to some degree. As a country we clearly don't value education as much as many other countries around the globe. Independence is great, as long as you're not working for someone else. Then it's a matter of "My way or the highway".
Culturally we are confused. We're having problems reconciling the concept of personal freedom with the practicality of actually running a country with those freedoms. We can't decide how to protect our borders while most other countries around the world can. Many countries kill people trying to enter illegally. We're talking about building a fence in an attempt to intimidate illegal aliens into staying home. We know that anyone who is determined enough can still go over, around, or through it. I mean the fence would only be built of steel, concrete, and stone. No matter how high, wide or deep we make it, people will still be able to go around, under or through if they have the will to do so. So why are we going to build the wall if it isn't going to work? That sort of question points out how stupid we really are.
I realize that the article isn't necessarily flattering to America. But then America hasn't always lived up to what most of us think of as American ideals. We invaded the Philippines. Even if you only look at the history we'll admit to there are things that we'd all have trouble accepting as the "American way of life" So if we're playing silly games with ourselves and pretending we don't see reality because we don't like it then we're being pretty stupid. If we ever want to get better we need to admit the
