Questions in faith that remain unanswered

by Jodie Scott

Created on: January 21, 2009

"Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."( Heb.11:1) A Christian's faith is his "title deed" as a joint heir with Christ. The "evidence" is the proof of things not yet seen. So faith is our inheritance to everything we can not yet see.

People of all groups, including Christians, grapple with tough questions. As believers we had better have some answers to give to those who ask.

Why does God allow pain? Why does He allow children, the elderly and animals to suffer silent abuse? If God controls nature, why does He let innocent lives be destroyed by hurricanes, wildfires, floods, tornadoes, and earthquakes? How could a God who loves us possibly allow these things? Before I began to understand a bit, I sometimes fell into the trap of accusing God of deliberately causing these disasters. I found I was treading on dangerous ground. Thank God as baby Christians, He understands. If we will ask, He will joyously forgive our accusations against Him.

Let's face it. We live in a broken world. God didn't create it that way. Man made it that way. Each of us from the beginning of time have been given free will. The will to choose good or evil. The choice is ours. God loves us and He longs for our love. But it must be given freely- He will never force it. As a new Christian, we drink milk. We have many questions that don't make sense. But as we grow, talk to Him and get in His Word, He will begin to reveal answers. Spiritual discernment will come as our walk in faith deepens.

Many times in our world things just happen. Some men were questioning Jesus about this very thing. They didn't understand when they asked Him if those who were killed when the Tower of Siloam fell on them were worse sinners than others. (Luke 13:4) He answered "no" but then added a spiritual warning. (Remember, His words are Spirit and Truth) "Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish." He used the tower falling as a analogy to present a deeper truth.

Somewhere I read that we use only about 10% of our brain. For reasons of His own we are not yet permitted to know the reason for this. I believe one of the reasons is so we will learn to trust Him. Who would have the audacity to believe 10% of their brain could pick apart the infinite mind of God? Do we forget He is the Creator and we are the created?
