South Africa: Jacob Zuma, the new ANC president, rocks the boat

by Kirk Olivier

Created on: January 21, 2009

Jacob Zuma has more than rocked the boat. He has been charged for corruption, theft, bribery and rape. He began his political career as a terrorist and murderer. He was sacked as the deputy president of the country and yet he is now heading for the presidential seat. The high court recently ruled that he must stand trial for corruption so he turned to the constitutional courts for help. His aim, to stall the system long enough so that he is elected as president before he can stand trial. What is South Africa in for?

Jacob Zuma is the role model for the youth in South Africa, we know this because his biggest following is the ANC youth league. This highlights the fears of most South Africans. The ANC youth league are a violent organisation that will destroy the economy of the country in order to get their own way. Much the same as the war veterans of Zimbabwe. The only difference being, that the youth league never fought in the struggle.

At the moment, there is no real president to take the seat in South Africa. The current president has only been in power for a few short months and has already had charges of theft and destruction of property laid against him. Democracy is the way to go, however the ANC is not. Nelson Mandela was a true leader, it is a pity those in power today do not follow in his footsteps. The ANC promise the poor of the country everything, yet have not delivered. Jacob Zuma has been a liar and a cheat since he started his political career, what makes anyone think he will change once in power?

South Africa may be one of the most stable financial countries in Africa. This is not due to the current ruling party. The world lifted sanctions on South Africa when the ANC came to power. This helped in the recovery of the economy. The ANC implemented Black Economic Empowerment, this does not work. Many companies have suffered hugh losses and many have ceased to operate due this implementation. The reason being, that people are given jobs and responsibilities that they are not qualified to handle. The same will apply to South Africa at the hands of Jacob Zuma.

The education and medical facilities in South Africa are to say the least, non existent. Housing for the poor has been on the agenda for the past 15 years, yet nothing has been achieved. HIV is rampant in the rural areas of the country, as much as 1 in 3. The ANC still then want to put a man in power that raped a young woman, even though he already has about 6 wives. They should be spending time and money education the youth about HIV and how to prevent it rather than to condone the acts of one of their leaders.

To say the least, Jacob Zuma may be rocking the boat now, but if he is elected to power he is going to sink it.
