Cell phone reviews: LG Lotus

The LG Lotus cell phone was released to the market in the third quarter of 2008. It is for use exclusively with the Sprint network. The LG Lotus includes internet access, a 2-megapixel camera which records still photos as well as digital and a full QWERTY keyboard. I find the sound quality excellent; the finest I've ever heard on a cell phone. In spite of the full array of features, the big selling point for many users is the look; most often commenters say the LG Lotus looks like a "

girly phone."

The LG Lotus is available in two colors; black and purple. The purple is a matte color with shiny flowers and vines on it. The black phone is simple matte black.

I bought my phone in November, 2008 because my previous phone made a "plink" sound one day and refused to do any thing else again. I would have kept my simple little phone forever if I could have. Since I needed to get a new one though, I decided I was going to get some of the features that I've seen other folks use and enjoy.

First and foremost, I wanted a camera. I'm a lousy historian and I've lost each and every digital camera I've ever owned. I've only lost one cell phone in my life, so I figured the combination of the two would be a safe bet.

Second, I wanted a QWERTY keyboard. I had recently begun to exchange text messages with my friends, and the fiddling with the numeric key pad from my previous phone annoyed me no end. The LG Lotus has one with actual buttons, albeit small ones, to press. This phone also includes predictive text which has rarely worked for me, but it is easy to override.

I didn't know that the LG Lotus even existed until I went into the store that day. When the salesperson showed it to me I was drawn to the pretty purple color, just like so many others. Since I'd never heard of it though, I wanted to find out about it. The store gave me access to the internet and I was able to search for reviews on the phone. There were only two negatives that I found about it. One was the tiny size of the buttons, and the second was that the MP3 player needed to use outside controllers.

Features include but are not limited to:

• Battery lasts for 5.5 hours of continuous talk time.
• QWERTY keyboard with buttons
• Access to the internet when operating in digital mode.
• Sprint Mail, Text Messaging, Voice SMS Messaging - includes predictive text
• Games, ringers and screen savers (Scrabble is my favorite)
• Address book allows 600 listings allowing up to 7 numbers each
• Bluetooth functionality
• Can be used as a wireless modem
• Camera for still photos as well as video
• External display 2.1 inches diagonally
