DUI/DWI explained

difficult time. Your attorney will likely instruct you to have yourself evaluated for your level of alcohol usage and begin a treatment program, if it is suggested, prior to beginning the court procedures. A private attorney will also assist you in obtaining letters of reference from friends, families and employers to present to your county probation office to be taken into consideration prior to your sentencing.

If you are ineligible for Home Confinement you will be subject to the minimum sentencing requirements of your state and may well have to spend time in your county prison. A private attorney will have the education and experience to ensure that you have the best opportunity for minimizing your sentence.

Be aware that in addition to the above, most states will also impose fines, have mandatory educational programs you must attend, may order mandatory attendance at twelve step meetings and substance abuse treatment programs, along with community service assignments. A period or periods of supervised parole and or probation are also very likely after initial sentence is satisfied. Your attorney will be able to prepare you for the most likely outcome of your case, but can in no way guarantee leniency or what your sentence will be.

After your case has been concluded, a private attorney can also assist you in obtaining an expungement of the case, should you qualify, thus clearing your criminal record in order to avoid future complications and embarrassments during standard background checks for employment and so forth.

When facing a serious charge such as DUI/DWI it is in your best interest to hire a private attorney as quickly as possible in order to ensure the best possible outcome of your case.
