Bible study: Who is the us God refers to after creation

by Ren Huff

Created on: January 21, 2009

This study is about to rock your world! How do I know? Until I stumbled upon the answer, I had never heard anyone explain who the "us" is that God was talking about in Genesis 1:26.

Genesis 1:26 says "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.' "

Many people have speculated that it was either the Trinity or angels that kept God company but I have proof that someone was with God from the beginning. I can also tell you who it was and how I know. Ready?

Do you remember as a child playing the "Who Am I?" game? Someone would think of a person, place or thing and then give clues to who/what they were. The other person would have to guess the answer by the clues given. I thought it would be fun to play that game in this study. Don't cheat. Follow along and have fun.

Who Am I?

"I, ?, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion...Counsel and judgement are mine; I have understanding and power...By me kings reign, and rulers make laws that are just; by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on the earth. I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me...

"The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water; before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world.

"I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep its command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.

"Then I was the craftsman at his side, I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind." Who Am I?

You just read most of Proverbs 8 (verses 12-31). Beginning in verse 12 the question mark I added in replaced the word "Wisdom." Yes Wisdom was at God's side from the beginning. Is this awesome or what? When you realize this is who God was talking about in Genesis 1, it all makes more sense.

God saw Wisdom to be so important that He
