As I am sure you are aware, Chelsea are not performing well at the moment. They lack belief and determination and desperately need their injured players back - especially John Terry is sorely missed.
Unless they quickly get their ship in order and sort out their injuries, buy replacements and sort out their internal political struggles, they can wave goodbye to the title in 2006-07. They are still in with a good chance of winning either the Carling Cup, FA Cup or Champions League, but I must admit that even though Arsenal beat Manchester United this weekend, I don't think Chelsea have what it takes to claw back Manchester United's six point lead.
That brings us on to the question of predicting the length of Chelsea's dominance over the English Premiership? Well, they have certainly controlled everything the last two seasons, but have stuttered a little this season. It looks like there are a power struggle between the back room staff, Jose Mourinho and Roman Abramovich looming behind the scenes and it could be that rather than their actions on the pitch which bring their dominance to an abrupt and premature end.
I do however, not foresee Roman Abramovich pulling the plug on his financial support in the near future nor do I see Chelsea slipping out of the top three in the league. But it does look like Jose Mourinho is on his way in the summer, leaving the club looking for a new manager who can keep Chelsea amongst the top clubs in Europe challenging for all four trophies.
With regards to the finances, Peter Kenyon has ambitiously stated that he want the club to be a viable business which does not require Roman Abramovich's money to survive by the year 2012. A bold statement, but far from impossible! If he succeeds, there is no limit to how long Chelsea can rule the roost in European football.
