the real world a campaign contribution is a nice name for a bribe. Just like lobbying is a nice name for influence peddling. Lobbyist get heard not when they represent thousands of people in a special interest group but when they show up with a large check from that group. Bribes and influence peddling get things done. Especially when your planning on doing something illegal. Even the latest good guy Obama is not above this. The same bundler (guy who collects the loot) who has pointed a finger on Illinois Governor Blajovich and also claims he did the dirty deed for Obama. Funny how federal investigators have found lots of evidence against the Governor who was clearly on the take but have been stymied by a Senator now President who received funds from many of the same sources.
In any case the fix is in and nothing short of a miracle will change the means by which politicians find the funds to run for election or re-election. If history teaches us anything its that Rome operated under the same system of graft and corruption. Our republic is not immune to the same pitfalls and will rot from the inside out as a result. They had 'bread and circuses' to keep the common folk from realizing what was going on until it was too late and the rich packed up and moved east to Byzantium. We have 'American Idol and fast-food' to keep us occupied, my only question is where will the rich flee when it all collapses?
